Wine.com – Web Development for Frog Design

In 1999 we were contracted to provide web development for Frog Design, a world-reknown German industrial design firm, for their new client Wine.com.

Details

They created the original Macintosh and Sony Walkman. We built HTML and graphics for the site, and assisted in code and web image optimization. They required hand-coded HTML (of course there were no WYSIWYG editors at the time).

Results

Much of the HTML and graphics employed during this first round of design are still in place today. Wine.com is one of the few surviving companies from this era. We may not have played an essential role in the success of the company over the long haul, but were instrumental in laying the groundwork when they were just a fledgling start-up.

We also learned a great deal from working with world-class German designers. A distinctly different working environment from the traditional cubicle/office hierarchy — everyone worked together seated at one very large round table.
