Dow Jones – MarketWatch
For the first 7 months of 2011 I provided various interaction design services for Dow Jones' MarketWatch website. This has included everything from initial sketches, to low-res wireframes, high-res mockups, user flows and diagrams, and functioning demos and prototypes.
iPhone-optimized Mobile Prototype
Objectives
- Provide an iPhone-optimized experience for iPhone or Android mobile visitors
- Provide access to market data and news
- Optimize graphics and layout for iPhone dimensions
- Display screen interactions and navigation
- Develop a prototype of the site using jQuery mobile
Results
- This project is currently still in development
- The prototype however, can be viewed on an iPhone or Android-based touch-screen device
Inline Hover-quote Redesign
Objectives
- Analyze the current inline hover quotes with an eye for improving the user experience
- Incorporate ads into the quotes
- Utilize whitespace more effectively
- Use color to display the relative up or down real-time movement of the stock
- Shorten the length of the tickers to provide a less distracting user experience
Results
- User feedback indicates that this is a direct improvement over the old user experience
- These new hover quotes can be viewed by hovering over the stock ticker for any symbol mentioned in any MarketWatch article.
Wall Street Journal/MarketWatch User Migration
Objectives
- Provide user-facing screens and emails to provide a track for all members of both websites to login using the same credentials
- Account for up to eight different use cases
- Provide a seamless user experience while transitioning users
- Create diagrams describing the user flow for all use cases involved
Results
- Users have effectivley been provided with a seamlsess experience which now allows them to login to either the Wall Street Journal Online or MarketWatch with the same credentials.
- Stakeholders were clearly informed of all the use cases and the user flow involved.
